Lens Options

All of the lenses available from this site are suitable for our cameras. However, some cameras such as the NC800 or GS800 do not support alternative lens installation.

Also, while all of the lenses shown will physically fit the NC1000 or GS1000 range, these cameras require a minimum focal length lens (Check the lens details for exclusions)

One of the difficult problems when setting up a CCTV system, is choosing the right lens for your cameras. Different lens giving different fields of view, and different levels of zoom. Some of the higher-end lenses also offer features such as Auto-Iris, and manual zoom/focus adjustment. Choosing the wrong lens can lead to a camera monitoring too small an area, or conversely not having enough zoom to capture events with clarity.

The following images demonstrate the differences in lens sizes. These images were taken from a tripod 10 meters from the building, using one of each of the available 4.3, 6, 8, 12, and 16mm lenses. Aside from the lens size, the camera was identical, and the position of the camera does not change.

4.3mm Lens

6mm Lens

8mm Lens

12mm Lens

16mm Lens

Adjustable lenses are marked with their maximum and minimum sizes. Examples are 3.5 - 8mm lenses (of which the 6mm sample above would be roughly in the middle of this range), and telephoto lenses that range from around 5 to 50mm.

Lenses for CCTV Body cameras are also available as "Auto-Iris" types. These have a lead that connects to the camera itself, and provides the camera with the ability to let in more light in dark conditions, and less in bright conditions. This helps avoid the common problem of "sunrise glare", where the rising sun shines directly into the camera, completely blinding the camera's view.

Auto-Iris lenses are available as two types, DC-Drive and Video Drive. DC-Drive lenses use a control signal from the camera to adjust the iris size, whereas video-drive lenses adjust the iris size based on the brightness of the image in the video signal.

Lenses are either DC drive or Video Drive, but never both.

NOTE: The GS1000 and NC1000 cameras do not have auto iris connectors.
